GIST: Day 31

Grace in Small Things, Day 31 I am grateful... - that I am not giving up on GIST even if I am skipping some days here and there - for my kids taking a nap yesterday, and then playing great together afterwards. Yesterday was an awesome afternoon. - that my family was ok with crackers, sliced cheese, ham, bananas and dried apricots for dinner. Well, I am sick and yesterday afternoon/evening was pretty bad. My whole body hurt so bad, I could barely make it off the couch. My throat feels like hot sandpaper- ugh... But a good night's sleep does wonders, and my body is not aching today (can't say the same about my throat). So yesterday afternoon was a gift- both kids slept and then they kept themselves occupied and played and watched Harry Potter with my husband (who is suffering from a stomach bug) and I. I am definitely grateful for yesterday's nap and last night's good night of sleep. I still think once you become a mother, you are automatically immune to EVERYTHING. It...

New Decor

What a week!!! I have been at home with Lucy and Walker most days. It started as allergies, but Lucy started wheezing, so we went to the doctor and started the breathing treatments. The doctor also put her on a steroid and 2 stronger allergy meds. 2 days later, she was still wheezing so we went back to the doctor- she has pneumonia!!! AHH! It's only in one lung, and he gave us an antibiotic that we started immediately. I talked to him about going to an allergist, but he thinks she is too young and doesn't need it yet. He gave us alot of samples, so hopefully that will last us until the weather calms down. This is what my counter top looks like right now. Walker is on over-the-counter allergy meds and cough medicine. Lucy is on steroids, 2 allergy meds, and an antibiotic. We finished the breathing treatments yesterday. Our New Decor!!! We have drawings taped all over the place now. The kids LOVE coloring, drawing and writing right now, and of course they want to showcase all the...

Walker boy

Image
I was so looking forward to this week. Nothing on the calendar, and getting caught up on blogging and housework. So what happens? Walker comes down with croup and Grace's dad passes away. Croup is scary. It won't be so scary the next time one of my children have it, but the first time you experience it, it's scary. The worst sounding cough- he literally sounded like a seal barking. And when he would get to coughing, he couldn't breathe because his airways were so inflamed. The doctor gave him a steroid shot, and he is finally somewhat improved today. Next time one of my children gets this, I will be prepared, but I was pretty worried about him earlier this week. When someone is suffering, it's always easy to say, "Oh, they will be so much better off in heaven." Then it actually happens, the Lord takes them, and your so sad and hurt you didn't get to see them "one last time". It's always sad when someone passes away, even when they were su...

SOCCER!!

Image
Last week was Walker's first soccer practice/game. It's every Saturday, and for the first 30 minutes, they do a practice session, then they "play" a game. This is for younger kids, and just getting them used to soccer and how to play. He really liked it...for the most part. He got upset during the game, the other team kept scoring. He is quite competitive (what? I don't know HOW that happened...), and so soccer didn't end very well. He was all set to go and give it another try this weekend(and get Chick-Fil-A if he held it together), but we were up all night doing breathing treatments, so today is not a great day for soccer. He has had allergy issues for 2 weeks, and this cough will not quit (or let him sleep!). Here are some pics from Week 1:

Friday Favorites...or not

Image
My favorite thing this week is... My pediatrician- and the wonderful nurses that kept calling me back all week! Lucy has been sick with a virus that won't quit. Monday morning she woke up with a 102 degree fever. Monday and Tuesday that was her only symptom. She stayed home from school on Monday (not happy about it at all, "I'm not sick, Mama! I'm not sick!!") Wednesday, she got worse with a cough, so we went to the doctor and found out about the virus. By 1:00 Thursday morning, her fever was at 104.8. I put her in the bath in the middle of the night, but we didn't sleep much that night. Thursday, her fever didn't get below 102, and she started getting these big red blotches and welps on her legs and arms. Call the doctor again, and they say it's the virus moving outside of her body and to give her Benadryl. After two doses of Benadryl, she finally slept all night last night, and NO FEVER today. She hasn't eaten anything in a couple of days, thoug...
