Half Birthdays!
In February, I was filling in our wipe off board calendar of our monthly events (which by the way, I LOVE our white board calendar and if I was still doing Friday Favorites it would totally be one of them. It has been such a great instrument in teaching the kids the concept of time and days) and realized that February 16th is Walker's 1/2 birthday. I put a big 5 1/2 on the 16th with a "W". Walker got all excited and wanted to know what that was. We talked about 1/2 and all that for a bit, and Jason told him that he could choose what we had for dinner that night and even get a special dessert. Well, I'm sure you can tell where this is going- now half birthdays are a BIG deal for the Ballards. He chose homemade pizza for dinner and we had cupcakes that he and his sister decorated for dessert. We even invited Jason's parents for the special occasion. It was really fun, and now he enjoys telling everyone that he is 5 1/2.So, of course, Miss Lucy wanted to know when her half-birthday was, and when April rolled around I got to put her half birthday up, with a big 4 1/2. She chose deviled eggs as an appetizer, homemade pizza and she wanted decorate-your-own cupcakes. So, I made the cupcakes and had icing and sprinkles and everyone had to decorate their own before we sang and ate it. Of course, Nana and Papa were invited for this special occasion, as well. It was a great meal and a fun little celebration.
Forgive my iPhone pictures. My camera has not been the same since a certain camel at Arbuckle Wilderness impatiently grabbed my camera strap while trying to get food from my lap and then promptly spit it out so it fell to the ground.

I have to give all credit to the hubby for this one. He came up with this (albeit spontaneously), and I am happy to oblige! It's fun to have a mini-celebration in February and April- there's not much going on during those months for us anyway, so it's something to look forward to! The kids have enjoyed it immensely, which makes it super-enjoyable for us as well.

You are such a good momma, Kristen!! I love reading about all the fun things you do with your kiddos. When they grow up, they will have many conversations like, "Remember when we did ____?" Fun memories!!
